The UI English Society's mission is:

- To foster relationships between students and faculty
- To create a greater sense of connectedness between English majors
We host a variety of events throughout the academic year, including:
- Social events: games, crafts, trivia, holiday parties, etc.
- Educational events: study sessions, Inspiration Series faculty talks, etc.
- Literary events: open mics, readings, workshops, etc.
- Charity fundraising
- And much more!
"Hello everybody! My name is Evalyn Harper and I'm super excited to be joining the English Society officers as a member of the Marketing and Outreach Team! Next semester I'll be starting my second year at the University of Iowa studying English and creative writing on a publishing track. I'm an avid reader/writer of fiction and I'mparticularly interested in creating inclusive storytelling for children and teens. Outside of my literary pursuits, I've been known to enjoy video editing, attempting to play the ukulele, and any and all things Disney.
Emmy Lane Palmersheim (they/them) is the Education Chair of English Society! From Cedar Rapids, IA, Emmy is a triple major in English / Creative Writing, English Education, and Education Studies & Human Relations, with minors in Theatre Arts and Social Justice, as well as a teaching endorsement in English All. Outside of EngSoc, Emmy is a drama editor on earthwords, a member of the Change UIowa English Committee, an undergraduate representative on the English Department’s IDEAS committee, and previously served a two-year tenure on the Student Advisory Committee for Sexual Misconduct.
Sam (she/her) is from Park Ridge, IL, and is our new Marketing and Outreach Chair! She is double majoring in English and Theatre Arts, as well as participating in the Honors Writing Fellow Program, From Cover to Cover, and theatrical productions on campus! She is so excited to share her love of stories with the society and connect with other organizations!
Olivia (she/they) is the Publicist and Webmaster for the English Society! She is from Joliet, Illinois, and is majoring in English and Creative Writing on the Publishing track with a minor in Spanish! Outside of English Society, she is the poetry editor for Patchwork Literary Magazine and is a writer for the Iowa Reading Research Center. She is so excited to introduce the new members to the club and help plan wonderful events for the literary community!
I'm just a literary plant :)
